July 2021 Proclaimed Barbershop Harmony Singing Month in Colorado Springs

The America the Beautiful Chorus is currently celebrating its 75th anniversary. The Pikes Peak Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society was chartered on July 1, 1946 and has been providing high quality a capella vocal harmony throughout the community since that time.

In May 2021, the chapter began the process of appealing to the Colorado Springs City Council for a bit of recognition for its 75th anniversary. In early August, we received our copy of the City of Colorado Springs Proclamation that July 2021 was proclaimed Barbershop Harmony Singing Month in Colorado Springs. Better late than never!

As the proclamation states, the Pikes Peak Chapter has made a number of significant contributions to the quality of life in Colorado Springs. It is noteworthy that one of our founding members served as Mayor of Colorado Springs, and that a significant number of our members over the years are veterans of military service, business professionals, and educators.

In addition to conducting high quality concerts over the years, the America the Beautiful Chorus has more recently been chosen to provide musical support to a number of naturalization ceremonies as conducted by the U. S. Customs and Immigration Service.

Perhaps it is only appropriate that as the City of Colorado Springs is celebrating its Sesquicentennial (150 years), it would recognize the Pikes Peak Chapter performing as the America the Beautiful Chorus as an integral part of the city’s history.
